Sophie, a stylist with Tommy’s Hair Company, Llandudno, won her gold medal at the WorldSkillsUK 2017 hairdressing final, which was a reward for hard work, dedication and commitment to perfecting her skills. Sophie has used her competition skills to increase client bookings by 60 per cent since qualifying.

She is also mentoring an apprentice at Tommy’s Hair Company where training manager Jane Hughes, describes her as a great example. Sophie’s commitment to help others prompted her to fly to Uganda in March where she cut children’s hair and trained school teachers in basic hair cutting techniques.

“Being nominated for a VQ Award is another vehicle that supports me to continue to promote hairdressing competitions and the huge benefits it can bring to individuals and their employers.”
